Diplopia following cataract surgery: a review of 150 patients
This retrospective analysis of patients presenting with diplopia after cataract surgery at a single site during a 70-month period finds a diplopia incidence rate of 3 percent. Pre-existing strabismus (34 percent) and extraocular muscle restriction/paresis (25 percent) were the most common causes of diplopia. Extraocular muscle restriction/paresis was the most common cause of diplopia when infiltration anesthesia was used; preexisting strabismus was the most common cause with topical anesthesia.
